Jerry Hsu es un profesional, podríamos decir, de la década dorada de la industria. Los que le preceden vivieron una época de cierta precariedad, los famosos “early 90’s” en los que todo se desarrollaba a toda velocidad, el patín cambiaba mucho y, económicamente, por otro lado, sufría un declive tras la explosión que experimentó a finales de los 80. Pero Jerry subió al estrellato en los tiempos en los que el skateboarding se convierte en un gran negocio, con la edad de 16 años. A día de hoy, con treinta y- muy- largos años, ha visto el funcionamiento de la maquinaria desde dentro el tiempo suficiente como para saber lo que hay y lo que no hay.

Lo que no hay, o lo que no había, pues Jerry Hsu, en un determinado momento, decide desvincularse de cualquier patrocinador y canalizar sus energías en patinar por gusto, en compartir sesiones con colegas y poco a poco, acabar creando su espacio creativo dentro del patín sin ni siquiera habérselo propuesto demasiado. Hsu necesitaba calma, tras darlo todo como profesional- solamente hace falta ponerse en You Tube algún video suyo de raw files y sabréis exactamente de lo que hablo- , y seguir dando rienda suelta a su faceta más artística, intentando conectar con sus propias raíces e influencias. Al final, consigue poner en el mercado aquello que no había, aportando algo fresco, atractivo y con la solidez de una carrera intachable como soporte.

El protagonista de hoy, natural de la ciudad de San José e hijo de ingenieros informáticos vinculados a Silicon Valley, pone en juego su creatividad artística y la entrelaza con ese mundo de computadoras antiguas, tecnología informática, ciencia ficción vintage y retazos de catálogos con fotos de obsoletos cachivaches electrónicos. Un conjunto, en su totalidad, nada desechable estéticamente y que pronto llegó a camisetas, sudaderas y complementos varios. Ahora, hace muy poco, Sci-Fi Fantasy ha dado el salto al material duro con una serie de tablas con la indudable calidad del sello Generator - o sea, como las tablas Real, Anti Hero, Polar,… para ilustrar un poco a los que no saben de lo que hablo ahora mismo- que tenéis disponibles en Petshop Barcelona, junto a una selección de prendas brutales que pueden volar como no te des vida ya mismo.
